March 20, 1775 – The Second Virginia Convention meets in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, VA. Among those in attendance: Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, Robert Lawson, Sampson Mathews, Peyton Randolph and George Washington.
The Convention resolved that “the colony be put into a posture of defence” and designated a committee “to prepare a plan for the embodying arming and disciplining such a number of men as may be sufficient for that purpose.”
Fear of the growing Patriot cause leads Governor John Murray (4th Earl of Dunmore) to move gunpowder from the Williamsburg, VA magazine to a Royal Navy ship.
