We took this tour the morning before seeing the play. As lovers of the musical we found the information stunning as our hero was not presented as much of a hero. But we thoroughly enjoyed thought we felt the start of it was a little too long and boring. We wanted to get going. While I loved her map of old NY it would've been even better if she could overlay 1800s NYC over today's NYC to help give us bearings.IF you're interested in history Karen is very informative and entertaining. Well worth the money.
We were a little nervous about signing up for a walking tour in February but it was definitely worth it! Karen is an excellent and enthusiastic tour guide. I would highly recommend any of her tours.
After watching the AMC series,Turn, I guessed there would be a Revolutionary War tour of NYC, and lo, I found Karen's tour. It was a bitter cold February day, but so worth it. Karen seems to know everything about the Revolutionary War period and the history of NYC. My husband is usually no fan of walking tours, but he loved this one. Karen's enthusiasm is remarkable. We visit NYC almost every year, and we will definitely book another tour with Karen.
What a great walking tour. You know it had to be good to spend the 2 1/2 hours on a walking tour in January with temps in mid 20's. Karen is such an expert on history but she tells it with such entertaining stories! Highly recommend taking this tour. My husband knows his American Revolution history so I was concerned he think it was more entertainment than history but not the case! Factual and entertaining! Thanks Karen!
The absolute best American history tours in NYC! I’ve taken all three tours offered by Karen and she is the best because of her knowledge and passion for the subjects she covers. As a lover of American history, I appreciate the in-depth archival research and the time invested in such an endeavor. These are critical, valuable, stories forgotten or never taught in our history classes. If you thought you couldn’t connect with our past, Karen will bring it back to life and remind you it is all around us and must be preserved and protected.
Had a great time with Karen on the tour! I wanted to make my parents' visit to NYC unique and special, and my dad and I are both interested in Revolutionary War history. This was the perfect gift.
The tour greatly exceeded our expectations. We have been a Revolutionary War Re enactors with the 1st NY Regiment and the information Karen presented greatly added to our appreciation of the role NYC played in that conflict. Karen really made the past come alive. Articulate, friendly and accommodating. I recommend this for anyone with an interest in NYC and the Revolution. Can't wait to take it again with some of my other history loving friends. Thank you Kare.
A group of 5 friends took the Revolutionary Tour with Karen and I have to say that as we finished up our New York trip and were evaluating all the amazing things we did, this tour was on the top of everyone's list. It was so informational, and added more context to the many places we have wandered around in lower Manhattan before, not realizing their significance. Karen was so friendly and personable. She really knew her stuff from her own original source investigating. I have already recommended the tour to many others, and will definitely do it again on a future trip to NY. Thanks, Karen, so being so great and giving us such a wonderful experience!
I have taken the Revolutionary war tour and the Hamilton--Burr tours and both were unbelievable!!!Karen had so many interesting tidbits about the supporters and opponents of British rule. I was impressed by the extensive research she had done. I would highly recommend these tours to everyone. If you are not interested in Revolutionary war history before this tour you definitely will be interested after taking this tour!!
We took the Hamilton tour after having read Chernow's (well, most of) biography and on the day we were going to see Miranda's musical that evening. The weather was not perfect for walking - not really raining, but often lightly misting. The tour was still a terrific experience. Karen's knowledge of the revolutionary era, combined with her delightful presentation style, made it a great experience. And she had some options ready for when the weather was not so great.
